We cut back beginning October, but some re-sprouted and have flowered again. Do we do another cut? The frost has now largely killed them - should we rake up?
You could cut now but prob best to do an early spring cut (April). As for raking off the frost killed plants that’s a tricky one, pros & cons to both. Have you read Pam Lewis-how to make a wildflower meadow? There is no real right and wrong way-can be a bit of a balancing act!
This looks stunning, Caroline!! This is a little bit of a tangent, but does anyone have any views on using low-nutrient topsoil? Is it a profit-making ruse or a good way of discouraging grass? Would be grateful for advice!
Very much depends on the situation, it probably works to some extent whether it’s necessary or worth the extra cost is another matter. Jonathan at st nicks I’m sure would be happy to give some advice he has lots of experience of different wildflower projects.
